<![CDATA[Spokane Braves Baseball - Braves Weekly Updates]]>Mon, 14 May 2012 17:14:45 -0800Weebly<![CDATA[Summer Becoming Fall]]>Tue, 25 Aug 2009 13:58:51 -0800http://spokanebravesbaseball.weebly.com/1/post/2009/08/summer-becoming-fall.htmlWith the summer season ending in a first game playoff lose to the Sox, the Braves get ready for the Fall league and hope to have a better outcome than summer.  The schedule will be updated when informed.  Braves will pick up new players as other return to school.  See you in the fall and first game is Sept 13th.]]><![CDATA[Braves vs Blue Jays]]>Mon, 10 Aug 2009 12:28:39 -0800http://spokanebravesbaseball.weebly.com/1/post/2009/08/braves-vs-blue-jays1.htmlIn the first game things started out slow for the first 3 innings.  The score was tied at 1-1, until the Blue Jays took advantage of some mistakes and scored some runs to break the game open for them and not look back.  Baker scored from a lead off double and an RBI by Rippee.  Rippee and Turner also scored by RBI's from John Lehman and Baker.  Cameron Rippee was awarded the Player of the Game honors by going 2-3 with a single, double, walk, run, and a RBI.

The second game started out the similar to the first with the Blue Jays up by 2 through the 5th and then they scored another 3 to be up 5-1.  Unfortunately the Blue Jays were too much for the Braves and took the day by sweeping the Braves two games to none.  Baker scored the one run by a hit by pitch and was brought in by Cox's RBI.  Jesse Lehman threw a great game by only giving up 6 hits, 2 walks, 4 earned runs, with 9 strike outs.  Jesse Lehman earned Player of the Game honors by pitching a great game and going 2-2 with 2 singles and a walk. 

Also a big Congrats to Jesse Lehamn and his beautiful new wife on their Marriage Friday August 7th.  Best wishes to the both of them in their new life together and Congrats overall to the Lehman family on the new additions into the family.]]><![CDATA[ Braves vs Dodgers]]>Mon, 03 Aug 2009 18:38:12 -0800http://spokanebravesbaseball.weebly.com/1/post/2009/08/-braves-vs-dodgers.htmlGame 1 started off very neck and neck as the score was 10 in favor of the Dodgers for the first 4 innings.  Baker and Lee(Dodgers) put up a fight and kept each team from putting up a lot of runs.  In the second inning with a runner on 1st and thrid the braves pulled off a crazy triple play.  Line drive to stanifer at short (1), throw to Cox at first(2), then Cox to Beck at third who throws to Turner at home to tag the runner out sliding to the plate(3).  Even with that the Braves still couldn't capitalize and in the bottom of the 4th the Dodger broke out and scored 6 runs to put them up 7-0.  In the 5th Lehman got on and Baker hit a 2 out triple to score Lehman and get the first and only run for the Braves.  Dodgers took the first game 7-1.  Chris Baker recieved Player of the Game honors by going 2-3 with a single, triple, and RBI.

The second game wasn't much better as the temp. outside got hotter so did the Dodgers.  Dodgers came out in the 1st to score one.  The Braves came back by back to back singles by Baker and Colby who scored by a strong single from Cox to put the Braves on top.  However, that lead soon left as the Dodgers too over and scored 14 in the final 4 innings to win 16-2.  Damion Cox was awarded Player of the Game Honors by going 2-2 with 2 RBI's, HBP, and 2 singles.]]><![CDATA[Braves vs Rockies]]>Mon, 27 Jul 2009 15:10:45 -0800http://spokanebravesbaseball.weebly.com/1/post/2009/07/braves-vs-rockies.html

In Game 1 against the Rockies both teams started off early by scoring 3 runs each.  2 of the Braves runs were brought in because a giant homerun by Damion Cox which gives him 2 for the season.  Beck scored in the 2nd by a hit from Lehman to give the Braves a 1 run lead.  In the next few innings the Braves scored 6 more with Lehman recieving 2 more RBI's with a hit.  Berland pitched 5 strong innings and only gave up 3 runs, 4 hits, 1 walk, 1 hit batter, and struck out 9.  Rippee came in and didn't have the best outing this season by giving up 9 runs, 8 earned, 9 hits, 2 walks and 1 strike out.  The Rockies closed the gap to take the lead in the 7th by 1 run, but thanks to Turner and Stanfier getting on base they were able to score by a sac fly from Dawley and a wild pitch to bring in Stanifer for the winning run.  Final score was 14-13 Braves Win.  Chad Berland recieved the Player of the Game honors for his great pitching and help on offense.

With an exciting finish to Game 1 there were high hopes for the second game to be just as intense.  The Braves started off with a quick 2 runs in the 1st by Colby and Stanifer.  The Rockies scored a run or two through out 6 innings to give them 5 runs for the game.  Lehman pitched a strong 6 innings giving up 5 runs, 2 earned, 7 hits, 1 walk, and struck out 9.  Baker came in for the final inning to finish the game off by giving up no runs, 1 hit, and 1 hit batter.  The Braves offense was very strong by scoring 11 runs in game 2 by Colby, Stanifer, Cox, Lehman, Baker, and Beck.  BDamion Cox and Chris Baker were awarded with the Players of the Game honors by going 3-3 , 2runs each and Cox had 2 RBI's and Baker had a double. 

]]><![CDATA[Braves vs Padres]]>Mon, 20 Jul 2009 13:50:31 -0800http://spokanebravesbaseball.weebly.com/1/post/2009/07/braves-vs-padres.htmlIn game one the Braves started off slow by giving up 4 runs in the first 3 inning under Baker's pitching.  The braves got on the scoreboard in the bottom of the 3rd by a hit by Alvarado, double by Lehman, and a sac hity by Baker to score Alvarado.  In the 4th the Padres scored 6 to expand their lead.  However the Braves came back by scoring 5 of their own in the 5th inning by Stanifer, Salsbury, Alvarado, Lehman, and Turner.  Stanifer shut them out in the 5th-7th innings but the damage was dont and the Padres came away with the win 10-6.  Damion Cox was awarded the Player of the Game honors with 2 hits, double, 3 RBI's, and a stolen base.

Game two started off more on the Braves side by taking the lead 3-2 through the 4th and then in the 5th the Padres came out with a 3 run inning.  Stanifer, Cox, and Colby scored the Braves 3 runs but that was it for the Braves as they fell short to the Padres 5-3.  Alvarado and Lehman earned and RBI each.  Damion Cox again recieved the Player of the Game honors by going 2-2 with a SAC, RBI, and a run.

]]><![CDATA[Braves vs Sox]]>Tue, 14 Jul 2009 14:57:35 -0800http://spokanebravesbaseball.weebly.com/1/post/2009/07/braves-vs-sox.htmlWith the lack of players the Braves came out strong and played both games with 8 guys.  Jesse Lehman pitched a strong full game and only game up 3 runs with striking out 4 and only giving up 6 hits.  He was backed up by a great defense and an even stronger offense.  Baker scored twice, Stanifer scored once with 2 hits, 2 RBI's, and a triple.  Beck scored twice with 2 hits and a double.  The big hitter of the day though was Damion Cox who had 3 hits, 2 runs, 5 RBI's and a big HR to lead the offense and the team in a 8-3 victory.  Cox also earned Player of the Game honors.

The second game was a lot like the first game with the Braves only having 8 guys.  Baker started the game pitching and only gave up 3 hits, 3 strike outs, and no runs on 4 innings pitched.  Next Rippee came in to finish the game by giving 1 run, 2 hits, 1 walk, and striking out 3.  Overall great defense and great pitching to hold the Sox to a low offensive outing.  Braves offense was strong with Baker getting 1 run and a triple.  Stanifer had 2 hits, 1 run, 1 RBI, and 2 doubles.  Lehman had 1 hit, 1 run, 2 RBI's, and a double.  Once again though Cox came through big with 2 hits, 1 run, 2 RBI's, and a triple.  The Braves took the game and series with a final score of 6-1 and Damion Cox once again recieved the Player of the Game honors.

]]><![CDATA[Braves vs Royals]]>Tue, 16 Jun 2009 10:37:33 -0800http://spokanebravesbaseball.weebly.com/1/post/2009/06/braves-vs-royals.htmlFirst game of the day started out on top fro the Braves with good hitting and solid defense.  With the Braves on top for the entire game, it all came down to the last inning.  The Royals pulled a ralley together and got 8 runs in the 7th to seal the game 11-10.  Notable performances by Greg Stanifer going 2-4 with a double, 1 stolen base and bringing in 5 RBI's while scoring twice himself.  Also Chris Baker hit a double, brought in 2 RBI's and scored twice.  Chad, Sean, Damion, and Jon also scored for the Braves.  Greg Stanifer was awarded Player of the Game.

With the first game out of the was the Braves were looking for payback to the rough first game.  The Braves took an early lead like they do every game, however the Royals came out even stronger in the 4th to score 7 runs.  That was all they needed to take the 6-12 victory and win the second game.  Overall it was a rough day of baseball for both teams.  Notable performances were once again by Greg Stanifer going 3-4 with 2 RBI's and the teams 2nd Home Run of the season and first for him.  Lane Salsbury hit the teams first Home Run of the season and gaining 2 RBI's with him scoring once.  Greg Stanifer was awarded Player of the Game agian for the day.

]]><![CDATA[Braves vs Blue Jays]]>Mon, 08 Jun 2009 14:04:59 -0800http://spokanebravesbaseball.weebly.com/1/post/2009/06/braves-vs-blue-jays.htmlIn the first of two games today the Braves started out strong by scoring a run in the first inning by Chris Baker.  with good defense and solid pitching the score was still 1-0 until the 5th inning when the Braves took advantage of some pitching mustakes and scored 5 runs.  Thats all it took to take the first game win.  Final score was 6-1 Braves win.  Chad Berland pitched an amazing game by having a no-hitter for 5 innings and ended the game with only 4 hits and 1 run given up and pitched the teams first full game.  Berland was awarded player of the game honors.

The second game was not as glamorous for the Braves as the first.  With some errors and lack of hitting it was a tougher game than wanted.  The Blue Jays started out by scoring 3 runs in 5 innings off of Chris Baker's pitching.  Josh Dawley came in and gave up 7 runs in the 6th.  The braves were shut down by the pitching of the Blue Jays.  Final score was 10-0 Blue Jays.  Justin Beck went 1-1, walk and was awarded Player of the Game honors.

It is the starting of the regular season against the Spokane Dodgers.  The Braves came out strong with a 2 run lead in the first thanks to a lead off tripple by Chris Baker and hits with RBI's by Chad Berland and Justin Beck.  After that the game was close until the 4th inning when the braves defense fell apart.  The Dodgers took the lead and didn't look back.  The final scor was 7-2 Dodgers.  Chris Baker recieved Player of the Game Honors.

The second of two games begain the same way the previous game began with the Braves starting out with a double by Baker.  However, there were no runs scored by the Braves until the 4th.  Greg Stanifer hit a double as well and earned the Player of the Game Honors with a hit and scoring the only run for the Braves.  The Dodgers took the game 5-1 with a sweep of the 1st week of the season.
