Memorial Weekend Break 05/26/2009
Due to the holiday there was nothing going on for the team. Everybody except for Chris Baker and Justin Beck had the few days off. Baker and Beck how ever teamed up with the Spokane Dodgers to go down to the Tri Cites for a weekend Tournament. The team went 1-2 and did not make it to the Monday playoff and championship games. Overall it was a fun weekend to get out and play baseball in the Roy Johnson and Dust Devil stadiums. Hopefully next year we can bring our full team down to play. Next week we start the season with the opening game against the Spokane Dodgers at University High School and the games are at 11am and 2pm. Add Comment Jamboree A Success 05/18/2009
Two games in one day against two different teams on one field (West Valley High School). The first game we played the Sox and they came out strong with a 2-0 lead in the 1st. However that was it for them as the braves shut then down for the remainder of the game with great pitching by Cameron Rippee, Adam Smith, and Josh Dawley. The defense gave them and easy time with great catching by Sam Turner and only 2 errors given up by the infield and outfield. On the offensive side Chris Baker went 3-3 with 1 run and Adam Smith went 2-2 with 2 runs to help gain our lead. Josh Dawley came up big in the 2nd to tie the game up with a 2 RBI single. Overall a great first game and start to the Jamboree in the great weather. Victory at University 05/10/2009
Today we went out to the valley to face the Spokane Dodgers which will be the first of many. Coming off a rough loss and start from last week we wee determined to play harder and smarter. We started the game off by scoring a run in the first by a triple from Adam Smith. The Dodgers then came back in the secon to score one and tie it up. In the third inning Smith got back to the plate to hit his 2nd triple and because of a bad throw to third he prceeded to score the second run for him and the team. With solid pitching from the Braves the Dodgers were unable to score again until the 5th inning when they got one more and tied it up again. With a few mental mistakes by the Braves we were unable to score again until the 9th inning where we clutched up and hit the ball. With two outs and one runner on second Chris Baker hit a triple to score the winning run. Next Smith came up and hit his 3rd triple to score Baker and tack on another run. Finally, due to a wild pitch Smith was able to run in to home and score the final run for the half inning and put us up by 3 in the bottom of the 9th. The Dodgers scored one run off of Baker to come within two but were unable to get by the solid defense of the Braves. Adam Smith recieved the Player of the Game award by going 3-5 with 3 triples, 3 runs, 1RBI, 1 walk, and 1K. Also pitched 2 innings and gave up 1 run, 1 hit, and struck out 3. Justin Beck recieved Player of the Game last week by going 3-4 with 1 double, 2 singles, 1 stolen base, and 1 RBI. The Braves are now 1-1 in pre-season and will be playing next week in the league jamboree, so hopefully we will get a couple more wins under our belt before the regular season begins. 1st pre-season Game 05/04/2009
Yesterday we went out to Cheney to play against the Blue Jays. The game started out close with both teams tied at one thanks to Chris Baker scoring from 2nd by a hard hit from the player of the game Justin Beck. Adam Smith Started the game strong pitching and both him and Baker only gave up 1 run each. The game began to fall apart for the Braves due to a few errors and a lack of hitting. Brad Oakshott and Lane Salsbury took over pitching in the middle innings and Greg Stanifer came in and ended the game with a quick and strong 9th inning. The Blue Jays came out strong and ended stronger taking the victory of the 1st pre-season game. Overall, it was a great learning experience for the Braves and weare looking forward to next week when they take on the Spokane Dodgers at University High School for another pre-season game. League Try-outs and Practice 04/26/2009
Today there was an all league try out and there was a good turn out with people. Hopefully a new team will form to make 8 teams in the league but we will have to wait and see. After the league try out, we had a team practice and worked on defense and hitting. Our defense is looking very solid and will be a tough one to get balls threw. During our batting practice we had our first three batters (Justin, K.C., and Adam) go yard with Adam hitting 2 in his at bat. Then to end it off the last batter, Chris, finished his at bat with a over the fence shot. Overall, we have some very hard hitting players with good speed that will mix very well in the line up for games. First Live Scrimmage 04/19/2009
So last week we took off for easter. Today we took the time to have a live scrimmage. The pitching looked good as weell as the offense and defense. There are somthings to work on but overall things are looking good. After practice we had our team meeting at Round Table Pizza. We went back over what was discussed the last 2 months to make sure all was understood and things were in line for this season to begin. We have lost two players and will need to fill the spots unfortunately. However, all is still in line to have a great upcoming season. 1ST OFFICIAL OUTSIDE PRACTICE 04/05/2009
Today was our first outside practice since the weather has been rough this winter. Overall it went very well. There is a lot of young talent on the team and with that is the opportunity to make our team very competative this season. We took a very sold infield / outfield warmup and was able to observe and very strong throwing outfield and a quick play turing infield. We also had some great hitting even though we had the wrong baseballs.....oooops. We will be taking next week off due to the Easter holiday. SECOND TEAM MEETING 03/30/2009
Old Business LEAGUE MEETING 03/23/2009
With the season starting in only 2 short months the league officers and team managers have been working hard to make this a well operated 2009 summer season. Many new decisions were made and many old ones reviewed. The league has changed to an all metal bat use instead of one game wood and one game metal. The regular season was shortened yet the overall season has been extended to make your dollar count. It was agreed to have a LEAGUE TRYOUT ON APRIL 26TH AT 2PM AND THE FIELD IS T.B.D. The amount to play is $200 for a weekend jamboree, 16 game regular season, all-star game, playoffs, and any exhibition games your team may work out. The games will also start at 11am and 2pm instead of last years 12pm and 3pm. So with all the behind the seens work running smooth we look to have a great 2009 season ahead. Moving On 03/15/2009
This week we cancelled practice due to unfortunate circumstances. Next week is the league meeting and practice is still undecided. For this week the coach will be working on trying to finalize a begining roster rough draft and getting a field to call our home. Overall still looking good for this upcoming summer season to begin. | AuthorWrite something about yourself. No need to be fancy, just an overview. ArchivesAugust 2009 Categories |
